What ElevenLabs announced
ElevenLabs released Eleven v4 and Eleven v4 Turbo on 28 September 2026. In the announcement, written by cofounders Mati Staniszewski and Piotr Dabkowski, the company calls Eleven v4 its most emotive text-to-speech model and says it runs on an entirely new architecture. The model is designed to read tone, pacing, emotion and context from the text, and to keep each speaker's identity across long dialogue.
Users can describe the delivery they want in plain language, or add inline tags such as [laughs], [said angrily in French accent], [light rain] or [phone buzzing]. ElevenLabs says the model follows these tags more accurately than earlier versions, and that support for IPA phonemes for custom pronunciation is much improved. Multi-speaker scenes are generated as a whole, so speakers respond to what was just said.
Turbo for voice agents
Eleven v4 Turbo is the low-latency version for real-time use. ElevenLabs gives a median inference latency of about 100 ms. It also gives a median time to first speech of about 150 ms, which it measured in September 2026 over WebSocket streaming. The company says Turbo was optimized together with ElevenAgents, its voice agent platform. The model documentation lists Eleven v4 on the Text to Dialogue API and Turbo on the Text to Dialogue websocket.
ElevenLabs also makes two comparative claims. It says Eleven v4 ranks first on the Artificial Analysis voice leaderboard for September 2026, and that about 75% of listeners preferred it in blind tests against Cartesia Sonic 3.6, Inworld TTS-2 and Google's Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS and Flash-Lite TTS. These are company-run or company-cited results.
What changed for users
Both models support more than 90 languages. ElevenLabs says a voice recorded in one language can now speak any supported language with a native accent while keeping its identity, which matters for dubbing and localisation. Instant voice clones need only 10 seconds of audio, Professional Voice Clones are supported, and chaining requests for long content is more reliable in ElevenLabs Studio and the Reader app.
The documentation sets a limit of 10,000 characters per request for eleven_v4, about 10 minutes of audio, double the 5,000 characters of Eleven v3. The models are available now in ElevenAgents, ElevenCreative and ElevenAPI, including on free accounts, according to the post.
What to watch next
The announcement does not give per-character prices for the new models, so cost against Eleven v3 and Flash is not stated in the announcement. Independent latency tests would show whether the 100 ms figure holds outside ElevenLabs' setup. Other model releases are listed under AI Models.
