Tech AI LatestAnthropic started rolling out Personal Finance in Claude on 5 November 2026, a beta for Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers in the US. Users link bank, card, loan and investment accounts through Plaid, and Claude reads balances and up to 24 months of transactions to answer questions about spending and bills. Access is read-only, it cannot move money, and chats in the Personal Finance hub are not used for training.

What Anthropic launched
Anthropic introduced Personal Finance in Claude on 5 November 2026. The feature lets a user connect bank, credit card, loan and investment accounts and then ask questions about their own money in plain language, such as where their spending went this month or what will leave their checking account before payday. It is rolling out gradually in beta to the Pro, Max and Ultra plans in the US, on the web, Claude Desktop and the iOS and Android apps. The Help Center guide says it is not available on Free, Team or Enterprise plans.
A Personal Finance page in the sidebar shows widgets for spending, cash flow, accounts, subscriptions, upcoming bills and short insights, which users can add, edit and reorder. Claude can also build charts, a calendar of due payments or a dashboard on request. Anthropic's example has Claude adding up a month of spending across accounts, sorting it by category, spotting a membership renewal and working out what is left before payday. The company says Claude can point out double charges, unexpected fees or bills that have crept up, and explain terms such as APR alongside the interest a user has actually paid.
How the bank connection works
Accounts are linked through Plaid, the service many US finance apps use to connect to banks. The user signs in to their bank inside Plaid's flow, approves read-only access and chooses which accounts to share, so Claude never asks for or sees the bank password. Up to 16 banks can be linked at once, and a bank can be unlinked at any time from the Personal Finance page or from Plaid's own portal, after which Claude stops reading it.
For each shared account Claude can read the bank name, the account name, type and last four digits, balances and credit limits, and up to 24 months of transactions with amount, date, merchant, category and the bank's description. For investment, loan and card accounts it reads balances and limits, not holdings, trades, interest rates or terms. Anthropic stresses that the feature cannot move, manage or invest money and is not designed to give investment advice. It also warns that figures can differ from the bank's own: balances can be a day or two old, an account linked through two logins may be counted twice, and a bank Claude cannot currently read drops out of spending totals.
Privacy rules and the trade-offs
Anthropic says conversations inside the Personal Finance hub are not used to train its models; for financial data shared in other chats, the user's normal privacy settings apply. Bank data appears in the conversation and stays in chat history until the user deletes the chat, and the cloud providers that host Claude also handle it. Once a chat has used linked accounts, Claude is designed not to save anything from it to memory, not to surface it in later chat search and to leave it out of the monthly recap.
The sharing features carry the main risk. A shared chat link shows Claude's replies including any figures from the user's accounts, and Claude asks before publishing an artifact from such a chat because the artifact may contain bank data and stays online until deleted, even after the chat is gone. Users who want tighter control can switch the Plaid connector off for chats or set it to ask before each read. Like the rest of Claude, the feature carries no ads or sponsored offers, and Anthropic says it does not sell credit cards, loans or savings accounts of its own, so answers are not steered toward a product.
Why it matters and what comes next
People already ask chatbots about money, usually by pasting numbers in by hand. Linking accounts directly makes the answers grounded in real transactions, but it also makes Claude a holder of sensitive financial data, which raises the stakes on mistakes and on how chats are shared. Anthropic's own guidance tells users to ask which transactions sit behind a number and to check important figures against their bank. The launch follows other consumer additions to the app, including the Claude Duet research preview in October, and lands as Anthropic prepares its public listing; our AI tools section follows these app features.
Anthropic calls the beta a first step. For larger money decisions it says people are best served by Claude working alongside licensed professionals and regulated firms, and it is inviting banks, wealth managers and financial services companies to help shape that. Open questions include when the feature reaches other countries or the Team and Enterprise plans, whether Claude will ever read holdings or loan terms, and whether it will move beyond read-only access, which would bring it under much heavier financial regulation.
