LG CNS completes 30 MW AI data center in Jakarta, fully leased, with 400 MW expansion in design

LG CNS finished a 30 MW AI data center in Jakarta for a Sinar Mas joint venture. It was fully leased before completion; a 400 MW phase is in design.

By Emre A.Published

LG CNS said on 2 November 2026 that it has completed a 30 megawatt hyperscale AI data center in Jakarta, the first AI data center a South Korean company has built abroad for a foreign client. The site was commissioned by KMG, a joint venture of Indonesia's Sinar Mas Group and Korea Investment Real Asset Management, and its full capacity was leased before completion. LG CNS is designing a next phase that would take the campus to 400 MW.

Key facts

  • Announced: 2 November 2026 by LG CNS (LG CNS)
  • Capacity: 30 MW, built for next-generation GPU servers
  • Client: KMG, a joint venture of Sinar Mas Group and Korea Investment Real Asset Management
  • Occupancy: customers signed for the entire capacity before completion; tenants not named
  • Next phase: in design, total campus capacity of 400 MW
  • Contract: about 100 billion won (around $72 million), signed in August 2025

What LG CNS completed

LG CNS, the IT services arm of South Korea's LG Group, announced on 2 November 2026 that construction of a 30 megawatt hyperscale AI data center in Jakarta is complete, according to the company and to reports in The Korea Herald, The Korea Times and Seoul Economic Daily. Korean outlets describe it as the first AI data center that a South Korean company has designed and built overseas for a foreign client.

The facility was commissioned by KMG, a joint venture between Indonesia's Sinar Mas Group and Korea Investment Real Asset Management. When the contract was announced in August 2025, it was valued at about 100 billion won, or roughly $72 million, for an 11 storey building with 46,281 square meters of floor space. LG CNS says customers were signed for the full capacity before construction finished. It did not name them.

The building is designed for high-density computing on next-generation graphics processors. LG CNS handled design, construction and operations, with cooling equipment from LG Electronics and batteries from LG Energy Solution, an approach the LG companies present as a single package of power, cooling and energy storage. The power system is duplicated so that backup supply can carry the load if the main feed is cut, according to the reports.

The project took a little over a year from contract to completion. When LG CNS won the deal in August 2025, LG Electronics was named as the supplier of the cooling systems, and Korean coverage at the time set completion for 2026. Delivering on that schedule matters in a market where many announced AI data centers slip because of delays in power connections, transformers and cooling equipment. LG CNS has not said when the first tenants move in or how many GPU racks the building can hold, and it did not disclose the final construction cost or whether it changed from the contract value reported in 2025.

The 400 MW plan and the regional push

The 30 MW building is the first phase of a larger campus. LG CNS says it is already designing the next phase, which would bring total power capacity at the site to 400 MW once complete. No construction start date, investment amount or customer for that phase has been published, and the 400 MW figure should be read as a plan rather than a commitment.

LG CNS also says it will pursue AI data center projects in other Asia Pacific markets, with Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Japan named in coverage. In Korea the company has built and operated data centers for LG affiliates and outside clients for years; Jakarta is the first time it sells that work as a full design and build package abroad. A 30 MW hall is modest beside the gigawatt campuses being planned in the United States and the Gulf, but Southeast Asian demand is growing as cloud providers, local conglomerates and AI startups look for GPU capacity close to their users and inside national data rules.

Why it matters

Most AI data center headlines this year have been about chips and power contracts measured in gigawatts, such as the NVIDIA and Oracle Vera Rubin build-out and Google Cloud's A5X clusters. The Jakarta project shows the other side of the market: mid-size facilities built quickly for regional clients, where the value lies in delivering power, cooling and backup that can handle GPU racks rather than in the chips themselves.

For LG, the project is a reference site for selling a combined offer from three affiliates, LG CNS for engineering, LG Electronics for cooling and LG Energy Solution for batteries. Korean groups are trying to turn their strength in electrical equipment into a larger share of AI infrastructure spending, much as power and cooling suppliers such as Vertiv have reported fast order growth. A fully leased first phase gives the LG companies a track record to show in tenders elsewhere in the region. More stories on capacity, sites and power are on the data centers hub.

What to watch next

Open points include who the tenants are and which GPUs they install, when the facility starts serving customers, how the next phase toward 400 MW is financed and powered from Indonesia's grid, and whether LG CNS signs its first projects in Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam or Japan. The company has not published the rack density or cooling split for the Jakarta building, which will decide how much of the latest GPU generation it can host.
